About the Workshop

After his enlightenment experience, Siddhartha Gautama, now the Buddha, made the momentous decision to teach others what he had discovered. His first disciples were five companions with whom he had earlier struggled to find enlightenment. He spoke to them in a short sermon that contained four claims — the Four Noble Truths that have been the foundation of Buddhism from that day until now. On this basis, Buddhism spread around the world and from that simple foundation, a multitude of texts, meditation practices, and philosophical systems have evolved. The Four Noble Truths are deceptively simple. They can be memorized in a few minutes but it requires a lifetime of contemplation to experience their profundity.

In this introductory level workshop, students will have the opportunity to study and practice with one of the foremost Buddhist teachers in the West. Lopon Rita will give meditation instruction and her teachings on the Four Noble Truths with plenty of time for discussion. This weekend program is ideal for beginning level students, as well as seasoned meditators and scholars and we welcome people of all faiths, philosophies and walks of life. Come join us for this very special opportunity to practice meditation and study the teachings of the Buddha in order to come to a deeper understanding of the nature of our own suffering and suffering in the world.
