Tibet Girls School Earthquake Relief Spring Benefit, May 16, 2010

Tibet school benefit at The Stained Glass

Guests at the Tibet Girls School Earthquake Relief Benefit mixed and mingled and gave and gave. We are humbled and amazed at the generosity of all who contributed at so many levels to the success of this campaign. The Spring Benefit alone raised more than $12,000!

Nancy Floy and Asang (left) offer a toast to our hosts, The Stained Glass Bistro, the board of directors, volunteers and donors from throughout the Evanston, Chicago area who so generously offered treasures, services, art and travel for the auctions. An update on relief efforts and plans for rebuilding the school included news that we will be able to build a stronger, bigger school than ever to educate more Tibetan Nomad girls.

Spectacular array of auction items

The silent and live auction featured items ranging from book bags and jewelry handmade by Tibet Girls School students, a bicycle with support package, original works of art, a week vacation rental at a private villa and gift certificates for all kinds of restaurants, classes and services.

Bidding in the live auction gets pretty active as board member Janice Nelson contemplates her next move.

Asang performs Tibetan songs

Asang sings a version of a new Tibetan Song dedicated to the victims of the earthquake. Board member Mark Repplinger (far right) transcribed the accompanying music. The original song on YouTube shows images from the disaster and how the Tibetan people are grieving and honoring victims.

The silent auction

As ticket sales for the benefit began to rise, Victoria Fonesca and Victor Hernandez, proprietors of The Stained Glass Bistro offered to host the event in the restaurant rather than the original location at their wine bar, The Cellar. Their amazing generosity, as well as their delicious food, stellar staff and renown wine list made our event not only successful, but really fun!

MANY THANKS TO ALL!

Thanks to All Who are Helping Rebuild Tibet Girls School

Due to the tragic events of April 14, 2010, our spring benefit focused on raising money to help care for our students and rebuild our school.

We are delighted to report that our Spring Benefit raised more than $12,000 toward caring for our students and their families after the earthquake tragedy and to rebuild Tibet Girls School!
