students with Antonio Terrone at Tibet Girls School

Northwestern University's Religious Studies Visiting Professor Antonio Terrone (second from the right) recently visited Yushu and brought along a copy of the classic women's health resource, Our Bodies, Ourselves, translated into Tibetan. Antonio — who speaks Tibetan and Chinese — and his wife, NU Assistant Professor Sarah Jacoby, have come from Columbia University to begin a Buddhist Studies program at the Evanston campus.

September was also the kick-off for our first Garage Sale Fundraiser. Held over two days, we raised $1,800 for the school. Board member Laura Dorfman (left) pitched in along with many of our tireless board members and volunteers. Shoppers like this little girl and her mother found all sorts of treasures donated from more than a dozen familes.

Asang and Nancy Floy are so pleased with the generosity of everyone who participated and who shopped the garage sale that they plan to do more in the future. Watch for details on a spring sale extravaganza!

Using the Tibetan language translation of Our Bodies, Ourselves (Healthy Body, Healthy Mind), students at Tibet Girls School will begin their year-long curriculum of health and wellness studies.
